[LISTEN] Local filmmaker puts gentrification in the spotlight

Kurt Orderson’s film ‘Not in my Neighbourhood’ touches on the history of colonial special planning.

CAPE TOWN- Local film maker, Kurt Orderson's film Not in my Neighbourhood' touches on the history of colonial special planning and how the same legacy continues to play out in South African cities today.

In the clip above, Orderson talks to Abongile Nzelenzele.

He shares his thoughts on the process of gentrification and the displacement of inner-city dwellers and communities.

Orderson says: "When development happens it should be inclusive and it should include the respect of history and heritage. These houses that are being demolished in Woodstock for example are over a hundred years old, that is heritage."

The film is set between three cities, Cape Town, New York and Sao Paulo.
