SABC says total ban on Babes Wodumo's 'Mercedes' untrue
The public broadcaster says the artist's song may have been rejected by individual radio stations.
At the weekend KwaZulu-Natal's MEC for Social Development Weziwe Thusi applauded the SABC for rejecting the song titled Mercedes, which is believed to be about a street drug.
The singer has denied this, insisting the lyrics are about her favourite car.
The SABC's Kaizer Kganyago says artists have to submit their songs directly to radio stations and it's not uncommon for a song to be rejected.
"If it has got vulgar language, incites violence, we would not accept that kind of music, but I can't talk about this song specifically because I do not have all the details. But it can never be true that the SABC has banned it."
