Suspects in DA councillor murder case to get trial date
Hannes Baatjies was shot dead in August, shortly after winning a seat during the local elections.
CAPE TOWN - A trial date will be set this week for six men arrested in connection with the murder of a Democratic Alliance councillor and his associate.
Hannes Baatjies was shot dead in August, shortly after winning a seat during the local government elections.
Among those accused is African National Congress member Zonisele Magawu, who lost to Baatjies in the elections.
The Hawks' Philani Nkwalase says the accused will find out if they make bail.
"The six people who're accused of the Postmasburg double murder will be appearing on 25 October which is on Tuesday."
The Postmasburg Magistrate Court will then set a date for the murder trial to start.
Baatjies and Shuping Nose are believed to have been lured to a bogus business meeting where they were shot.
Baatjies died on the scene, while Nose succumbed to his wounds six days later.
