MyCiti bus to add 10 electric-powered buses to its fleet

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town will include 10 electric-powered buses to its MyCiti bus fleet from June next year.

The contract to manufacture the buses has been awarded to the BYD SA Company who will also provide charging stations, technical support and training to bus drivers.

Spokesperson for the City of Cape Town's Mayor Zara Nicholson says the acquisition of the new fleet will provide job opportunities, as well as lower the bus service's carbon emissions.

"Just under a year since COP21, we are now pleased to announce that we've issued a tender for 10 electric buses as we are extending the MyCiti bus network across the city, we also have a responsibility to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment."
