Rashied Staggie lawyers move to have charges withdrawn
Staggie and his co-accused face charges of theft and the possession of stolen goods.
CAPE TOWN - Lawyers representing former gang boss Rashied Staggie and his three co-accused say they will ask the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to withdraw charges.
Staggie and the trio appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates Court today.
They face charges of theft and the possession of stolen goods after they were arrested earlier this year with several bottles of expensive whiskey and cigars.
It's emerged, attorneys for the accused have been in discussions with senior prosecutors in the DPP's office.
The defence lawyers are now waiting for the State to provide them with the docket.
This will allow them to make representations for the review of charges.
The prosecution has indicated the docket will be made available before the end of the month.
A decision on whether the National Prosecuting Authority will continue with the case is expected sometime next month.
