Govt to fork out R460m to repair damaged Vuwani schools
More than 40 schools were reported to have been damaged during protests earlier this year.
Motshekga's revealed the amount in a written reply to a parliamentary question from Congress of the People (Cope).
The minister says her department has assessed the extent of the damage and estimates that it will cost R462 million to rebuild, renovate and repair the schools that were burnt and vandalised earlier this year.
Motshekga says a request for the necessary funds has been made to National Treasury.
She says that she will only be able to provide timelines for the rebuilding and repair of Vuwani schools once Treasury has confirmed that the funds are available.
She was responding in a written reply to a parliamentary question from Cope Member of Parliament Deirdre Carter.
More than 40 schools were reported to have been damaged during the protests, which were sparked by anger over municipal boundary lines being re-drawn.
