Cape housing project on hold
The Joe Slovo housing project has been put on hold as it's without a project steering committee.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Human Settlements says its Joe Slovo housing project has been put on hold as it's without a project steering committee.
Last month residents voiced their unhappiness with the committee, which acts as a communication link between the community and housing developers.
Human settlements' Nathan Adriaanse says the department undertook to resolve the matter.
"The steering committee that we had in place did not fulfill it's mandate."
As a result, the department planned to facilitate a meeting to elect a new committee yesterday.
Adriaanse, however, says the election couldn't take place.
"The meeting was disrupted by the old steering committee who claimed they had not been informed that their committee had been disbanded."
He says the department will engage with the old committee and then schedule a new committee election.
