JOHANNESBURG - Police say two officers were involved in a shootout on the M1 near the Buccleuch interchange.

It's understood the suspects were stopped by metro police driving an unmarked car this morning, when they opened fire on the officers.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department's Wayne Minnaar says the officers were not wounded during the incident.

"The officers fortunately did not get injured. However, the car's engine seized and they could not continue the chase. There is a lookout for the Audi. There is no number plate available as yet."
