SA has most blue flag beaches in southern hemisphere
At least 45 beaches will fly the blue flag in South Africa, with 10 of them in Cape Town.
CAPE TOWN - South Africa has the most blue flag beaches in the southern hemisphere.
At least 45 beaches have been given the blue flag status nationally, 10 of them are in Cape Town.
It is an international accreditation given to beaches that meet more than 30 criteria, such as safety and cleanliness.
The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa's Lance Anders says: "If anybody goes to the beach and they see the blue flag then they know all the standards are the same no matter where they go in the world. The water is clear and the sites are well maintained, which reduces the impact people have on the coastline."
