CAPE TOWN - Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu-van Furth says all South Africans deserve better quality lives as was promised under the new democracy.

She welcomed delegates at the 6th annual Desmond Tutu Peace Lecture held at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town last night.

Tutu-van Furth adds, the absence of peace in society is the result of reduced accountable servant leadership.

"Bullets fly and black men die in city after city in the US. We are not on the campus of the UWC because there is no peace on our university campuses."

She also emphasised that better quality lives should be enjoyed by everybody not only a select few.

"Better lives for all, not just those who rape, loot and plunder but shrouded by party loyalty."
