CAPE TOWN - To mark Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu's birthday today, a special Eucharist service will be held at St George's Cathedral.

The Nobel laureate's special day will be celebrated through various activities across the city, including the 6th Annual Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture at the Artscape Theatre on Friday evening.

The cleric's daughter, Mpho Tutu van Furth, says her father will even preside over the church service if his health allows it.

With his improving health, Tutu van Furth says her father is looking forward to his 85th birthday celebrations.

"He is looking well and his health improves every day."

Several high-profile friends of the iconic clergyman have also wished him well.
