JOHANNESBURG - Quality assurance body Umalusi has warned that drastic measures will be taken against pupils, teachers and officials found guilty of wrongdoing during the 2016 matric exam period.

It says while there are still minor issues in some provinces, interventions have been put in in place.

Over 815,000 pupils will sit for the exams which start later this month.

Umalusi CEO Mafu Rakometsi says: "Our procedures and systems have matured over the years. To this end, we are confident that our intense scrutiny can only strengthen the system."
