‘Deterioration of SA’s education system started with Bantu education’
Advocate Dali Mpofu, along with Wits students, say they believe free education is possible now.
JOHANNESBURG - Advocate Dali Mpofu says the deterioration of South Africa's education system started with Bantu education and can only be addressed through the implementation of free quality education.
Mpofu today addressed a student assembly at Wits University to explain why a general assembly that was meant to be chaired by Chancellor Dikgang Moseneke was postponed.
Mpofu, along with students, say they believe free education is possible now.
The Advocate says free decolonised education is needed to undo past injustices.
"All these things, such as BEE, those are elastoplastic solutions but the real solution if you want to empower black people, you must give them education."
He says free education is possible now, students there fully agree with.
Mpofu said, "Free education!"
Students responded, "Now!"
Mpofu added, "When is it possible?"
To which students said, "Now!"
He says while students continue their fight for free education, a mediation team will be busy with efforts to bring consensus between management and students.
