DA won't take action against Eden mayor over alleged assault
The DA says because there's no charge against Booysen, the party will not initiate disciplinary action.
But the African National Congress is calling for disciplinary action.
Booysen is a former mayor in the Bitou Municipality who was implicated in a sex-for-jobs scandal earlier this year.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that Booysen's wife had initially lodged an assault complaint against him.
But the matter was resolved through mediation with a prosecutor, after the woman indicated she would not be proceeding with the matter.
DA Federal Council chairperson James Selfe says because there's no charge against Booysen, the party will not initiate disciplinary action as called for by the ANC in the Southern Cape.
Booysen has previously been accused of sending sexually explicit messages to a woman who was seeking employment at the Bitou Municipality.
