Two charged with defrauding WC municipalities
The pair recovered unclaimed input vat for three municipalities & allegedly inflated their successes.
CAPE TOWN - Two people have been formally charged with defrauding Western Cape municipalities of more than R16 million.
Mzwanele Sokopo and Ndileka Mfunda recovered unclaimed input VAT for the Oudtshoorn, Ventersdorp and Plettenberg municipalities and allegedly inflated their successes.
The Hawks' Lloyd Ramovha says they will be back in the George Magistrates Court next month.
"The pair were facing charges of fraud and theft in contravening of The VAT Act as well as Tax Administration Act. They're expected to make a follow-up appearance in the same court on 24 November."
