CAPE TOWN - Police say the details of a suspected arson attack at Rhodes University are still unclear.

A fire was started at the basement entrance of the main administration building yesterday, causing damage to electrical and communication lines.

The police's Mali Govender says security guards responded to a fire that started in one of the administration buildings.

"Security officers on duty at Rhodes University campus in Grahamstown noticed that there was fire at an admin building. They managed to get to it on time and managed to douse and put out the blaze before it could spread further."
