JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Energy has announced that the price of petrol will increase by between 43 and 44 cents a litre from 5 October.

Diesel will rise by 23 cents a litre and illuminating paraffin by 22 cents per litre.

The department says average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased during the period under review.

The rand appreciated against the US dollar during the period under review, on average, but still remained above the average of the previous period.

The Energy Department's Robert Make says, "All the petroleum products are going to increase by next week Wednesday. The main reason for the increases is the higher crude oil prices during the period under review compared to the previous period."
