CAPE TOWN - Protesting students have disrupted some classes at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

The group stormed lecture halls on the Bellville campus and wanted other students to join the demonstrations.

Earlier, classes at the Cape Town campus were temporarily suspended by protesters, but have since resumed.

Students yesterday submitted demands related to fees but management could not say if the disruptions are linked to that.

CPUT's Norman Jacobs says they are trying to respond to the situation.

"A group of students disrupted classes in our Engineering Faculty at the Bellville campus. We've asked security to intervene and we're hoping that the situation will get back to normal soon."
