#Fees2017: Are police properly trained to deal with protesters?
A video of Rhodes University students protesting shows one of them being dragged into a police van by police shortly after he shouted “Amandla”.
JOHANNESBURG - Following a video of police dragging a Rhodes University students during the # FeesMustFall protests, attorney Andries Nkome says it is clear the police are not properly trained to handle tense situations during protests.
Ten Rhodes University students were arrested yesterday during a protest over university fee increments in Grahamstown and several were taken to hospital with injuries after police fired rubber bullets at them.
Nkome says police need to practice restraint, especially during peaceful protests by students. In the SoundCloud above, 702's John Robbie unpack police brutality during student protests with Nkome.
