MANKWENG - Police have opened fire with rubber bullets on students at the University of Limpopo where demonstrators have barricaded the roads around the Turfloop campus as part of the # FeesMustFall demonstrations.

Two more students have been arrested for malicious damage to property and inciting violence, bringing the number of protesters in handcuffs to eight.

The university has been rocked by violent demonstrations over the past 24 hours, where students have vowed to shut the academic programme down for five weeks.

Students at the institution say there's no way they'll allow activities to resume while government ignores their demands.

Student protests flared up after Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande announced that universities would set 2017 fee increases within an 8% cap.
