Mashatile ‘nowhere close’ to appointing administrator for Tshwane
Yesterday, ANC and DA councillors clashed violently in the chamber at City of Tshwane council sitting.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Cooperative Governance MEC Paul Mashatile says he is nowhere close to trying to appoint an administrator for the City of Tshwane after yesterday's council meeting descended into disarray.
Yesterday, it appeared African National Congress (ANC) councillors clashed violently with Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors in the chamber after the ANC objected to a DA proposal to appoint two officials on a temporary basis.
It was reported today that the ANC administration would try to place Tshwane under administration or even try to hold another election in the metro.
The party lost control of Tshwane in August's local elections.
But Mashatile says that's not on the cards at this stage.
"You only appoint an administrator once you have given up, that this municipality is dysfunctional and we are not at that level (sic)."
