Bavuma aspires to be a role model for young cricketers
Temba Bavuma became the first black South African batsman to score a century on his ODI debut.
JOHANNESBURG - Temba Bavuma says he's embraced the challenge of being a role model for young cricketers in South Africa.
Yesterday, Bavuma became the first black South African batsman to score a century on his one-day international debut.
His performance helped South Africa secure a win over Ireland. In January, Bavuma scored his first Test century.
He says while being an icon for young cricket players overwhelmed him at first he has since embraced the role.
"At first it was a quite overwhelming but coming to that realisation and understanding I learned to embrace the challenge and use that pressure as positive energy, something that can motivate me going forward."
