NUM says it’s concerned about recent spikes in the illegal activity and the easy access to disused mines.
The union says it's concerned about recent spikes in the illegal activity and the easy access to disused and closed mines.
Free State police have confirmed more than 60 illegal miners have died underground in the province since March and more than 1,400 have been arrested.
The NUM's Livhuwani Mamburu says: "As the NUM we strongly condemn illegal mining wherever it's happening. They must arrest those who have the resources to give these illegal miners money to go and dig gold."
