Metrorail mulls shutting down CT central line over vandalism
Metrorail's regional manager Richard Walker says the situation has become untenable.
CAPE TOWN - Metrorail says it could be forced to permanently shut down operations on the Cape Town central line if its infrastructure continues to come under attack.
It's one of the busiest train routes in the city and transports thousands of commuters every day.
The rail operator is currently running a limited service after it had to suspend operations following further vandalism to infrastructure last week.
Metrorail regional manager Richard Walker says the situation has become untenable.
"The continued destruction of infrastructure as well as the attack on our train coaches will leave us at the point where probably we'll totally have to reconsider the operations in the central area."
