Transport union calls for improved safety at level crossings

CAPE TOWN - The United National Transport Union (UNTU) has called on rail authorities to improve safety at train level crossings.
Earlier this week, a train collided with a light truck at the Koelenhof crossing near Stellenbosch. No one was injured.
The union's Eddie de Klerk says the train driver was involved in a similar accident.
He says they have been raising the issue with for several years.
"We call on them to ensure these rail crossings are properly protected so that people cannot miss the train that's approaching. We have been raising our concerns for a few years now."
