CAPE TOWN - The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is celebrating the life and times of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro this week.

A photographic exhibition at the institution's Malibongwe Centre takes a look at the history of Cuba over the last 50 years.

The display, coordinated by the Friends of Cuba Society, will move to the Free State and Limpopo later this year.

The organisation's Fatima Swart says: "These are rare photos of Fidel Castro that depicts him over a period of time, so we cannot remove him from the Cuban revolution and the role he played in politics."
