JOHANNESBURG - Bizhub Highveld Lions opener Rassie van der Dussen says he and his teammates are keen to get out of the nets and finally get their season underway.

The domestic cricket season gets underway on 5 October as the Sunfoil Series kicks off. The Highveld Lions open their campaign against the Cape Cobras.

Speaking to EWNSport , Van der Dussen says there is a new crop of talent coming through the ranks at the Lions.

"The guys that have come in are all top class players. It makes for healthy competition in the squad because you know there are guys knocking on the door for your spot. Only 11 guys can play but that's what makes it exciting, especially when guys are away on national duty. We're going to rely on the whole squad system."

While the Lions have highlighted all three domestic titles as target, Van der Dussen says the four-day competition is top of mind: "The message that has come through from Stephen Cook over the last two to three years is that the Sunfoil Series is the pinnacle of the competition.

"You need to be really good over a long period of time. We pride ourselves on being consistently good in all formats."
