Maties employee says protesting students assaulted her
The Stellenbosch University has confirmed its investigating reports of the incident.
CAPE TOWN - A Stellenbosch University employee has reported to the university that a group of protesting students assaulted her on campus earlier today.
The institution has confirmed its investigating reports of the incident.
The employee told Eyewitness News a student grabbed her phone from her hand when she opened a door for a student to leave the Wilcox building.
When she demanded the student return it, a group of at least five students who were outside, allegedly assaulted her and pushed her to the ground, pulling her hair and hitting her on the head.
The employee is expected to bring charges against the group.
The motive for the attack remains unclear.
The university's spokesperson Martin Viljoen says the university is monitoring the situation on campus after a small group of students disrupted classes and set-off fire alarms.
