Dept commits to delivering clean drinking water amid drought

JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Water and Sanitation says the delivery of clean drinking water remains a priority amid the ongoing drought.
Dam levels have dropped by 20 percent compared to this time last year and they continue to decline each week.
The department says it's now considering using underground water.
Department's spokesperson Sputnik Ratau said, "The water quality is still one of those that are at the top of the pile. We do have challenges in some of the areas where you might find there has been a failure or lack of capacity but that does not mean, in the general sense, that the quality of water in south Africa is at risk ."
