Judge Yacoob: President Zuma manipulates SA to his own benefit
Judge Zak Yacoob says it is now becoming obvious that President Jacob Zuma is not an honest man.
JOHANNESBURG - Former Constitutional Court Judge Zak Yacoob says he believes President Jacob Zuma is manipulating the country to his own benefit and to protect himself.
He's also confirmed, saying at a dinner arranged to support Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan over the weekend, that he said Zuma is dishonest and disrespectful.
Yacoob has also said that it's clear Zuma is responsible for the Hawks investigation into claims that Gordhan behaved illegally during the setting up of a controversial unit at the South African Revenue Service.
Judge Yacoob says it is now becoming obvious that President Zuma is not an honest man.
"I don't think that he himself, if asked, would say that he is honest and is respectful of everybody."
He says Zuma is not acting in the best interests of the country.
"It is also quite clear that he is manipulating the country and everything in it to suit himself and protect himself. That is not the kind of president we want."
Yacoob says he also believes Zuma did not want to reappoint Gordhan as finance minister and now wants him out of the way.
