UCT students mobilise ahead of mass meeting
A group of students have been demonstrating since last week over student suspensions & fee increases.
CAPE TOWN - Protesting University of Cape Town(UCT) students are mobilising fellow students ahead of a mass meeting this afternoon.
The group has been demonstrating since last week, voicing their dissatisfaction over a disciplinary hearing against three students.
The group is growing in numbers. As demonstrators move through campus, they're encouraging fellow students to join the protest and a mass meeting.
At the meeting, activists will plot the way forward for their campaign which, among other things, aims to pressure UCT management to scrap fees altogether.
Protesters are also demanding those students who've been suspended or expelled since anti-fees protests first erupted must be allowed to return to the university.
The institution has suspended classes for today as a precaution, should the protest intensify.
