CAPE TOWN - Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is back in hospital after a surgical wound showed signs of infection.

Tutu had a minor operation just under two weeks ago, to treat the root cause of a persistent infection that's been plaguing him since last year.

After being at home for only three days after a two-week stay in hospital, Tutu was readmitted.

In a statement issued by the Tutu family today, the Arch's wife, Leah, said he was readmitted as a precaution.

The Arch had minor surgery performed about 10 days ago.

It's unclear how long he will remain in hospital this time round.
