Stellenbosch University: No fee increase isnt feasible
Stellenbosch University says a 0% fee increase for the next academic year would have serious consequences.
CAPE TOWN - Stellenbosch University Vice Chancellor Wim de Villiers says a zero percent fee increase for the next academic year would have serious consequences.
A university library has been closed after a group of protesting students clashed with campus security yesterday.
They're demanding tuition fees be scrapped.
Security guards dressed in black, man the entrance to the Admin Building at the university.
De Villiers says while they respect the rights of students to protest, these actions infringe on other students' rights who need to access the library.
De Villiers adds they therefore could not allow disruptions at their main library to continue.
The vice chancellor says while in principal the university would like to support free education for all, it's currently not feasible.
A meeting between protesting students and management is taking place this afternoon.
