Pick n Pay trials self-service checkouts
Pick n Pay has squashed rumors that their self-service check-out machine may lead to mass job cuts.
JOHANNESBURG - Pick 'n Pay has squashed rumors that their self-service check-out machine may lead to mass job cuts.
This comes after an image of a self-service check-out machine at one of the retailer's stores generated mixed reaction on social media.
But Pick 'n Pay has confirmed that the self-service machines are being tested at a single store at its Ottery branch in Cape Town.
The machines will operate in addition to the traditional check-out counters where cashiers will still be employed.
Pick 'n Pay's Cobus Barnard explains that the trial may take up to six months to yield any valuable consumer insights.
