CAPE TOWN - A meeting between management and protesting students is currently underway at Stellenbosch University's JS Gericke Library.

Students staging a sit-in at the library have demanded a meeting with rector and Vice-Chancellor Wim de Villiers to discuss their grievances.

Demonstrators want tuition fees scrapped.

University spokesperson Martin Viljoen says management will continue speaking to the demonstrators to reach an amicable solution.

"Professor De Villiers is not in town at the moment, he's visiting George. My understanding is that he's busy with alumni visit and of course alumni contributes a lot to student funding and bursaries."
