Automobile Association predicts hefty petrol price increase
The Automobile Association also predicts paraffin and diesel prices will rise by 24 cents a litre.
JOHANNESBURG - The Automobile Association of South Africa says its mid-month predictions point to a possible jump in the petrol price next month of up to 51 cents a litre.
The association says although the rand made great strides against the dollar during July and August, it's been dealt a blow by the controversy surrounding the Hawks' investigation into Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.
It also predicts paraffin and diesel prices will rise by up to 24 cents a litre.
The AA's Layton Beard says going into the festive season, fuel prices will be affected by the exchange rate and international oil prices.
"Unfortunately at this stage we predict that fuel is going to go up and will bring an end a pretty long run of fuel decreases since January."
