JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department says at least two pupils have been suspended from the Badirile Primary School in Khutsong, west of Johannesburg, in connection with the murder of another pupil.

The department says the pupils who are on suspension are suspected of being involved in gang-related violence at the school.

They are now awaiting a disciplinary hearing by the school governing body.

Education spokesperson Oupa Bodibe says: "They must be given a fair hearing and when it is found that they've done those things, they could be expelled from the school. There are a whole range of programmes we can embark on with Correctional Services and NGOs to take them into a diversion programme."

Earlier this month, a 19-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the murder of his school mate.
