Manuel seeks clarity around SOE coordinating council

CAPE TOWN - Former Finance Minister Trevor Manuel says many questions remain around the newly formed presidential SOE coordinating council.

The council will fall under the auspices of President Jacob Zuma.

It aims to oversee and co-ordinate reform measures for ailing parastatals.

Manuel says clarity is required as to what exactly this committee will do.

"What would another layer of government actually do? Does that help free up the decisions? I don't know any of this stuff."

The Presidency insists there's nothing sinister about the establishment of the council.
