[LISTEN] Why swimming & alcohol don't mix
While it may seem obvious that swimming and drinking can be dangerous, many still drink when they’re at a beach. The NSRI’s Dr Cleeve Robertson chats about why swimming and alcohol don’t mix.
CAPE TOWN - World Health Organisation statistics list drowning as the third leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide.
Dr Cleeve Robertson, CEO of the National Sea Rescue Institute, has warned people to avoid drinking at beaches and when swimming.
Robertson has also raised concerns about the number of children who can't swim and says he's in talks with the education department about this.
He urges parents to ensure that their pools are covered and to watch children when swimming.
