CAPE TOWN - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says a municipal by-election will take place in ward 108 in the City of Cape Town on 9 November.

The ward, comprising of areas including Mfuleni and Blue Downs, will go ahead following the resignation of the ward councillor.

This means that the more than 18,000 registered voters in the area will now have to verify and update their details this coming weekend.

The IEC's Courtney Sampson says, "The by-election came about because the councillor who was elected there resigned, so that ward now has a vacancy and we're putting together the arrangements to have a by-election there."

All voting stations in the affected ward will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
