CAPE TOWN - The Tutu family says doctors are encouraged by the progress being made by Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

The Archbishop underwent a surgical procedure on Wednesday after being admitted to hospital for a recurring infection three weeks ago.

Leah Tutu says doctors hope to be able to discharge him this week.

Tutu has once again expressed the family's gratitude for the prayers and messages of love and support that have been helping to sustain the Arch and restore his health.
