Entrance to UCT upper campus reopened after demonstration
Students say the protest relates to student grievances which have been ignored over the past 3 years.
CAPE TOWN - The entrance to the University of Cape Town (UCT) upper campus has been reopened after a demonstration earlier.
The protest was started by student leader Sibusiso Mpendulo and his brother.
The two brothers started demonstrating during peak hour traffic this morning to get the attention of UCT management.
Mpendulo says the demonstration relates to student grievances which have been ignored over the past three years.
When asked to comment on the demonstration, he replied, "No, I can't discuss that in public, my comments are private."
According to Mpendulo, calls and emails to UCT vice chancellor Max Price have gone unanswered.
An agreement was however reached and a meeting is set to take place with university management over the next few days.
