Two men arrested for illegal possession of abalone

CAPE TOWN - Two men have been arrested for the illegal possession of abalone during patrols on the N2 highway.

Police nabbed the pair late last night near Strand.

The confiscated abalone is valued at about R800,000.

The police's Noloyiso Rwexana says the men, from Bonteheuwel and Grabouw, are expected to appear in court tomorrow.

"The suspects were driving in a tow truck. It was towing an Opel car. Upon searching the vehicle, 5,626 shucked abalone were confiscated."
