Eastern Cape ANC calls for early consultative conference for party to ‘regenerate itself’
The ANC in the Eastern Cape says the ruling party needs to work out why it’s losing the trust of the people.
JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape says it's calling for the party to have an early consultative conference, because the party needs to regenerate itself and work out why it's losing the trust of the people.
The ANC Youth League, the ANC in Gauteng and the South African Communist Party have also called for an early conference after the party lost control of three metros in the local government elections.
The ANC's Eastern Cape Spokesperson Mlibo Qoboshiyana says this consultative conference needs to see everyone in the party working out what's going wrong.
"It is to drive a new consciousness effort to redeem the credibility of the movement and also to attend to issues that we understand have gone wrong while sustaining those that are working."
Qoboshiyana says this conference should not just focus on the ANC but also discuss policy.
"We cannot call a consultative conference because people are angry only, we need to re-channel negative energy as well to contribute to the country's bidding agenda."
The Eastern Cape ANC also says the actions of some individual leaders have tainted the image of the party.
