Amcu gives Sasol one week to respond to wage demands
Union members marched to Sasol’s head office in Rosebank today, demanding a R12, 500 monthly salary.
JOHANNESBURG - Mining union, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union(Amcu) says it's given petro-chemical giant Sasol a week to respond to the demands of striking workers.
Union members marched to the company's head office in Rosebank today, demanding a R12,500 monthly salary for entry level workers and a R3,500 adjustment to the salaries of those in higher income brackets.
Workers downed tools last month, after rejecting Sasol's offer of a 7 percent wage hike.
Amcu President Joseph Mathunjwa says, "Our members protected strike in pursuit of their wage demand of R12, 500 as a basic salary."
