Western Cape has 7 of SA’s top 10 murder precincts
Nyanga has seen a seven percent decline, but still has the dubious title of 'murder capital'.
CAPE TOWN - Seven police precincts in the Cape Town Metro have contributed nearly half the murders in the Western Cape.
The latest crime stats show murder in the province has increased by 1.2 percent in the 2015/16 financial year.
The province has seven of the country's top 10 murder precincts.
More than 3,200 people were killed in the Western Cape between April 2015 and March 2016.
Combined, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Harare, Khayelitsha, Delft, Kraaifontein and Mfuleni, contributed over 1,200.
Nyanga has seen a seven percent decline, but still has the dubious title of "murder capital".
Poverty, densely populated households, drug dependency and gangsterism in these communities have been blamed.
