CAPE TOWN - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it's prepared for a recount in the Bitou municipality following an electoral court ruling.

The court yesterday ruled in favour of the recount after the DA filed an application claiming vote tallying at a polling station in Plettenberg Bay didn't add up following the 3 August elections.

The party lost out on a majority in the town council by 40 votes.

The IEC's Courtney Sampson says: "It's a very simple process. We'll get a team of people together and some political party observers as we've had in the voting station. Then they will reiterate where are in terms of the count, whether it is same or whether it is not the same."
