George mom expected in court next month over son's murder

The woman confessed to killing her son, but evidence has linked someone else to the crime.

CAPE TOWN - A George mother is expected to appear in court alongside her son's alleged killer next month.

The woman confessed to killing her son, who reportedly had a drug problem, but evidence has linked someone else to the crime. The suspect is in hospital after suffering a stroke before his arrest, while the woman is out on bail.

The National Prosecuting Authority says there is no evidence linking the 44-year-old mother to the murder of her son.

The woman told police she was the one who stabbed her son in their home last month after he apparently tried to steal household items.

Police say they are still investigating the incident. The woman is facing a charge of defeating the ends of justice after apparently lying to police.

It's unclear whether the man who has been hospitalised will appear in court alongside her on 4 October.
