'Desmond Tutu in good spirits’

Tutu’s family has confirmed that he has undergone medical procedure to address recurring infections.

CAPE TOWN - The Tutu family says Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu's surgery has been successful.

The Arch had been admitted to hospital two weeks ago for treatment for a recurring infection.

In a short statement, Leah Tutu remarks that her husband is in good spirits.

She goes on to say the family is very grateful for messages of love and support.

Tutu also thanks the Archbishop's superb medical team.

The statement confirms the Archbishop Tutu had undergone the procedure to address the cause of recurring infections he has been battling since mid-2015.

No further details of the condition have been revealed.
