CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Community Policing Forum says it's gravely concerned by the high murder rate in the province.

The 2016 crime statistics shows that the Western Cape has the most murder hot spots out of all the provinces, with Nyanga topping the list.

The policing forum's deputy chairperson Francina Lucas says while they're perturbed by the latest crime stats, they'll assist Saps in finding new ways to fight crime in hot spot areas.

A special meeting to discuss the way forward will take place next weekend.

Lucas says they're committed to taking a stand against crime.

"Part of our mandate as CPF is to build and to strengthen the relationship between the Saps and the community."

Nyanga, Gugulethu, Khayelisha, Kraaifontein and Delft are areas where the most murders were recorded.

There were also more than 23,000 cases of robbery with aggravating circumstances in the province.
